Over the years, we’ve worked with hundreds of different clients while renovating homes and kitchens. Wondering what it takes to be a great home renovation client, and make the process go smoothly? Here are a few of our best tips!
How to be a good home renovation client: Be a decision-maker
One of the best things you can do for your home renovation contractors is to be a decision maker! We’re happy to always help you with decisions about your home renovation, but ultimately the decisions come down to you!
If you take a long time to make minor decisions, chances are your project will suffer delays. So, do your best to tell us what you have in mind when scheduling your renovation, and try to make decisions quickly. Pre-planning and research can be big helps in this area.
How to be a good home renovation client: Tell us if you change your mind about something – ASAP!
Decided you want quartz countertops instead of granite? Thinking about changing the size of refrigerator you want to get for your kitchen? Interested in having a gas line installed, even though you initially chose an electric range? Decided to spend the extra money and have your bathroom floor installed with in-floor heating?
Not a problem! But you need to tell us about it ASAP. If you change your mind about something and we’ve already started work on the initial project, chances are it can cost additional time and money to have it changed. However, it’s important to us that the outcome of the renovation is something you will continue to love for years. So, if you have changes, tell us right away!
How to be a good home renovation client: Prepare the workspace so that it’s clean and ready for us
We don’t mind cleaning up a bit, but our team is not a maid service. If we’re redoing your main floor as part of your home renovation, for example, we would expect that you’ve moved all of the furniture, toys, and other such things out of the room, so that we can get started right away.
Of course, we don’t expect your renovation area to be spotless, and we’re happy to move things around if we have to. But if you do a bit of prep work, it makes things much easier for our team!
How to be a good home renovation client: Respect the members of our home renovation team
We treat all of our clients with the utmost respect and care. In turn, we expect to be treated the same way. We know that sometimes things can get frustrating, or you may not be in the mood to deal with our renovation team – and that’s fine.
But we ask that you do your best to respect us, and trust our judgment during the project. Mutual respect makes for a more pleasant experience – both for you, and our team of contractors.
How to be a good home renovation client: Understand the limitations of your budget
Let’s say you have a $15,000 budget for a kitchen renovation, chances are you won’t be able to get fully-custom cabinets. If you’re renovating a bathroom on a low budget, you probably won’t be able to get brushed nickel fixtures, porcelain tile, or a seamless glass shower enclosure.
If you come to us with a limited budget, you must understand that a few sacrifices will have to be made. We can provide stellar results on a lower budget. However, you likely won’t be able to get all of the fancy fixtures and appliances you’re interested in right away. Make sure that you understand this – and prioritize the things that are the most important to you, if you’re working on a tight budget.
Follow these tips to be a good home renovation client!
