Headingley Basement Renovation
A custom build by Hammerdown
The existing feature wall of this Headingley home was not only outdated in appearance, it had some really poor choices in design and execution. The fireplaces was an odd shape, had poor tile work, and really did not work well with todays large flat screen televisions. There was no place for components or to display artwork and family photos. Worst of all was the fact that there was an open doorway to the master bedroom. That’s right, this wall dividing the main living space from the master bedroom had no door to close. Anyone sitting watching TV could be looking directly into the master bedroom. We had to fix that.
To update and correct these terrible design choices, we created built in custom shelving for components and display. Each box had it’s own low voltage lighting, and the component shelf was connected to the TV wall with tubing for easy cable runs now and in the future and technology changes. The fireplace was completely refaced from floor to ceiling with beautiful stone from TimberStone in Winnipeg. We also installed a custom floating mantle in wood to match the existing woodwork in the home. The most important change was the addition of a door to the master bedroom. This finally gave our client the privacy every bedroom should obviously have, but the frosted glass still allowed light to pass between rooms.
This redesign of the home’s focal point was was a great renovation project that did a lot to modernize this home and correct some very questionable decisions made by the original contractor that bult the home.
