Our clients loved their North Winnipeg home, which had been custom designed by the previous owner, an architect. The house had a lot of interesting features, but much of it was starting to become tired and outdated. The kitchen was in desperate need of an overhaul, and with our clients having retirement on the mind, we created a kitchen that was both updated, beautiful, and set up for the future life. We created a kitchen that could age with the home owner.
Since our client wanted to spend a lot of time in this space working on her laptop, enjoying the view out the large back window facing the yard, we made the oversized island the feature. The beautiful quartz countertop extends into a four person seating area. The cabinetry even hides a printer, as well as houses a television and cable box, making this both a place to entertain as well as a place to get other work done. Some variations on the typical kitchen design were implemented keeping our clients future selves in mind. The dishwasher for example was mounted in a cabinet, much higher than usual, this would make it easier to load and unload without bending. The glass backsplash really makes this place shine.
Our other favourite feature of this space is the unique vinyl flooring and custom bulkhead and mini pendant lighting above the dining room table. Matching floating cabinets in the dining area tie the space together with the kitchen.
This kitchen won the 2014 Manitoba Home Builder’s Association Renovation of the Year Gold Award in the Kitchen Category.
