A Country Chic-inspired Redesign
Our client’s home, located on a beautiful tree’d lot just outside of Winnipeg, was their dream home…with one exception. Unfortunately the kitchen that the builder had designed and installed only several years previous was not living up to the rest of the home. The original kitchen was dark and uninviting despite it’s massive size. There were many poor layout choices, and awkward designs. The aesthetic did not match the open contemporary look of the rest of the home. Many of the finishes were inferior and not what you would expect in a new home situated on an ideal lot.
This kitchen needed a completely new design, and needed to be renovated from the ground up. Together with our interior designer we came up with a new design that exceeded our clients expectations both in function and beauty.
We completely removed all of the existing cabinetry, but did so with care as it would later be donated to Habitat For Humanity Winnipeg in order to reduce waste and help the community. The kitchen was completely gutted down to the studs and floor sheeting. The corner pantry and horribly shaped bulkhead were eliminated. All new electrical work was done to meet current building codes that had changed even in the short lifespan of this home. All of this backend work allowed us to create a much better kitchen layout.
The removal of the pantry allowed us to create considerably more counter and cabinet space The lower kitchen cabinets we installed all have drawers instead of doors which means every inch of cabinet space is utilized for storage, and no objects get lost at the back of the cabinet. The upper cabinets we are full height to the 9′ ceiling, and feature textured glass and in cabinet lighting that allow our clients to safely store and display some prized kitchen collections. To make up for the loss of pantry, full height cabinets were used next to the refrigerator and feature pull out, full extension cabinet hardware. The oversized island is ideal for prep work, and a baker’s dream with it’s pull out mixer shelf and custom spice rack.
Several elements and finishes work together to create a truly unique look. The white cabinets are no ordinary white, they were glazed with a custom colour, and contrast the knotty alder island and ceiling accent. The backsplash brings out some of the subtle colours of the cabinetry and blends with the unique tones of the granite countertop we selected. The stove was highlighted with a feature glass mosaic tile. We installed luxury vinyl tile on the floor, which provides much more comfort and durability than a traditional tile floor. Custom kick plates were designed and installed to enhance the elegant look of the cabinetry.
The entire project sits under, what we think is the focal point of this kitchen renovation, a beautiful tin ceiling with a custom glazing to match the cabinet handles. This ceiling accent creates quite the impression and really sets this renovation project apart from the rest.
Of course, all of our beautiful work is well lit with LED lighting that will bring brightness to this space for years to come.
We absolutely loved working on this renovation, and our clients could not be happier with their new dream kitchen. An amazing space to entertain friend’s and family and create many lasting memories.
