This ensuite renovation had a surprise waiting behind the walls. Once demolition began, the original drywall tested positive for asbestos, and a floor joist was found to be severely damaged by old, substandard plumbing work. Both had to be fixed before any design work could begin.

Reworking the footprint for a bigger shower and vanity

With a clean, structurally sound space to work with, our bathroom renovation team turned to the client’s real ask: more room for the shower and vanity. We captured square footage from an adjacent closet and pushed the old tub wall back, opening up enough space for a custom shower and an enlarged vanity without crowding the room.

An organic modern retreat

High-gloss, sage green quartz tile wraps the custom shower, stacked vertically to mimic handmade ceramics and pull the eye upward.

A built-in bench and niches keep it functional. Matte black fixtures, including a rainfall showerhead and wand, add contrast against the soft, earthy palette. A pony wall topped with glass partitioning zones off the toilet area while keeping natural light flowing through the room.

The vanity is finished in a malted stout stain with matte black knobs, a quartz top, and a matching faucet. A large frameless medicine cabinet above adds storage without adding visual bulk.

Built for a wet environment, this ensuite features in-floor heating, a new high-efficiency exhaust fan, and moisture-resistant materials and paint to keep it looking sharp for years to come.

Ensuite bathroom renovation highlights:

  • Reclaimed closet space and a relocated tub wall to expand the shower and vanity.
  • Custom shower in vertically stacked, high-gloss sage green quartz tile with a built-in bench and niches.
  • Pony wall with glass partitioning for privacy without sacrificing light.
  • Vanity in malted stout stain with Hanstone Tofino quartz and a frameless Kohler Embark medicine cabinet.
  • In-floor heating and moisture-resistant materials throughout.

A guest bathroom refresh, too

The main floor bathroom got the same attention, in a different palette. Hanstone Tofino quartz and painted maple Elias Cabinetry in Cushing Green pair with matte black Baril fixtures and Richelieu hardware, a Neptune Lemans tub, and Kuzco Nola sconces for a bathroom that feels every bit as finished as the ensuite upstairs.
