A previous client, pleased with our work on 3 earlier projects, welcomed us to come back for more. We were happy to turn our attention to renovating their kitchen, family room, and laundry/powder room. They preferred a tropical look, so we proposed a neutral palette of greys and watery blues for the project, as it made an effective backdrop for their vibrant accessories. The moment you walk into the space you feel relaxed and refreshed, as if you’re on vacation year-round!
The temptation with kitchens is to go all-white, but that didn’t seem harmonious here. A light and bright feel was the goal and we got that by going with the combined slab front doors in a combination of two colours. To finish off the effect, we added texture and personality to the space with accents on the hood cover and custom art niche. Notice the seamless look we’ve achieved by having the beautiful quartz countertops wrap up the backsplash. We know this room will get a lot of use, so why not make the clean-up a breeze?
The family room ended up with a new linear fireplace and feature wall. We decided a matching quartz slab was best to ground the fireplace and added floating shelves to reference the kitchen materials; all to keep a pleasing aesthetic balance. Plus we found using the inset niche, combined with a textural wallpaper, offered a way to disguise the TV. The result is a family room that is now a true showpiece.
Finally we put in a new glass railing to make a divide between the rooms. With a glass railing we have functionality without severity. It’s more subtle and friendly in its purpose; it divides but at the same time allows an open feeling for everyday life or for entertaining guests.
Fun pops of colour paired up with neutral finishes served as the perfect complement to our client’s overall bright and tropical vision for their home.
