In this article, we’ll walk you through how much our interior design services cost. You’ll gain a sense of what to expect even before you contact us for a free quote. But, we also must warn that the pricing figures are merely estimated. 

Why can’t you quote interior design services without a meeting?

Great question! Because every interior design project is unique, we need to meet with you to discuss your specific project, before we can give you a quote. The good news is we offer free interior design consultations at our showroom. The benefits to you are:

• You’ll meet members of our entire design-build team including many of our senior employees
• You’ll see that we’re an established, reputable interior design firm that also can complete general contracting
• Your appointment is free and requires no obligation or pressure – in fact, many of our past clients have told us it was a great way to break the ice

To make your interior design consultation as productive as possible, we ask that you bring two things to the meeting:

• Your thoughts, ideas, and needs for the spaces we’re designing in your home
• Photos of each of the spaces, so we can review them with you

That’s it! After this initial consultation, any future information needed will be handled through a second appointment at your home or via phone or email.

Ballpark estimated interior design services cost

Our interior design services pricing is a wide range as there can be many variables that lead to an increase or decrease in scope. Perhaps, one of the biggest variables is which rooms or spaces in your home are being designed by our team. However, for most rooms in your home the cost of interior design services:

• Per room – $3,000 to $6,000
• Per floor – $5,000 to $10,000

We typically don’t accept interior design projects that only include a bedroom or living room. However, we can bundle that space together with the rest of your home renovation if we’re  also renovating your kitchen, basement, or bathroom.

Our pricing structure for interior design services is also based on a fixed-fee contract. We can develop a fixed-fee contract for your design project after we’ve assessed and reviewed the scope of work.

Breaking down our interior design costs by renovation type

As mentioned earlier, the space – and how much of it – is often one of the biggest factors in our interior design service pricing. Next, we’ll take a look at the estimated interior design costs by room.

Kitchen design costs

A kitchen design project costs can start at $3,000 and usually top off at $6,000. Kitchens with a smaller footprint, less intricate cabinetry, or fewer customized requests will typically be near the low end of the design costs scale.

Some kitchens have a much larger-than-anticipated footprint in the home, will work best with a dining room or eat-in-kitchen design completed at the same time, or grow into a main floor renovation, especially in renovations where walls are removed. When these occurrences happen, the interior design can reach the high end of our estimated cost.

Bathroom design costs

Bathroom design projects are typically in the ballpark of $3,000 to $5,000. Similar to kitchens, bathroom designs with a smaller footprint, fewer details and customization will typically cost less. 

On the other end of the scale, for a luxurious ensuite bathroom design or a more detailed design, like custom storage solutions or custom tile, a barrier-free walk-in glass shower with a separate deep soaker tub with surround and heated flooring, will be touching the top end of our bathroom design pricing.

Another popular addition to our ensuite bathroom design is a master suite makeover. We will gladly discuss additional spaces in your home during your quote and consultation appointment.

Whole home design costs

As you may have guessed, there can be many variables when calculating the cost of an interior design project for your entire home (or most of your). Some of the largest factors and questions that will play into the cost of your design project are:

• Will your project entail multiple floors – main floor, second level, and basement? 
• Are we transforming the function or form of the home by planning to remove walls, and move plumbing, electrical or HVAC ventilation?
• What rooms or spaces are on each floor of your home that we are designing?
• How old is your home, how was it constructed, and what were the materials used to construct it?

Along with these key factors, your home is going to be different from the next. If your home’s main floor consists of a kitchen, living area, and powder room – it will likely end up costing less for the design than a home’s main floor that is more involved – with multiple bedrooms, ensuite bathroom, separate dining room, etc.

However, for this article, we’re here to give you the answers you came for! Our whole home interior design services cost anywhere from $10,000 on the low end, up to $25,000, and potentially more, depending on the complexity of the design and what spaces are being rebuilt.

Basement design costs

For basement design costs, the pricing structure is similar to our “per floor” pricing, which starts at $5,000 and can climb to $10,000. It fully depends on what parts of your basement we’re designing – we can include your basement bathroom, your utility or laundry space, or your guest bedroom.

As part of your interior design project, here’s a short breakdown of what to expect for the price.

• Initial interior design consultation where we discuss everything from what you’re looking for in your renovation, needs you have in a home, layout options and materials.
• After the consultation, we take our notes and put together a package for you that we refer to as our interior design contract. It includes everything you’ll need to know about your project, including costs and timeline.
• Our design-build team consisting of our construction team and interior designers starts planning. We then present you with a floor plan layout, material summary, and renderings of your transformed space.
• Throughout the process, our team is in constant communication with you, ensuring your needs and wants are being met. There are multiple opportunities for you to put personalize your design project – by sharing ideas and feedback.
• Once we’ve reached a finalized interior design plan, we have our construction team price the renovation work. There is a final meeting with you to present all of the details of the design, and we walk you through the renovation quote that would make it a reality.

Is there any limitation on how we can use the plans and files you deliver from your interior design services?

Our interior design services can be used separately from our construction services. In some situations, you may choose to hold off on the renovation project, choose to work with another renovation company, or, our preferred choice – work with Hammerdown!

Whichever you decide, we send you your finalized interior design drawings, measurements, and rendering – so you can choose what happens next with your renovation.
