What bathroom renovation process do you follow?

The Hammerdown home renovation process makes for an easy, enjoyable renovation for our clients but difficult for our competition to replicate. What seems like four simple steps requires much experience and expertise. But we love what we do, so it never feels like work. Our renovation process is:

  • Consultation & interior design – through a series of meetings, we capture your vision of a dream bathroom, crunch the budget numbers, and design a space you’ll truly love
  • Pre-construction – once the final measurement and design tweaks are completed, we start ordering the products and materials and plan your entire renovation using our project management software down to the hour – so no details go unnoticed
  • Construction – includes several mini-phases, such as demolition, electrical, plumbing, drywall, product and flooring installation, and finishing carpentry. We handle everything, so you don’t need to worry about anything.
  • Final walkthrough & warranty – when your bathroom renovation is complete, we conduct a walkthrough to ensure your space is as dreamy as you wish. Then, you have peace of mind with a two-year warranty on all our craftsmanship.

When it comes to bathroom renovations, we listen to your needs so the space we create feels uniquely you. We are mindful of your budget, often finding creative solutions or offering advice on areas where we can splurge and which areas we can save.

What features do you recommend for my bathroom renovations?

The short answer is: it depends.

During your bathroom renovation project, we create a plan with you that is based on you and your family’s lifestyle and what your needs are from your bathroom.

We also consider the space we are renovating—e.g., an ensuite bathroom or powder room—as our choices for your project will depend on that. For example, we are more likely to recommend features like heated floors and high-end finishes, while powder rooms benefit from space-saving solutions and bold design choices.

However, a shortlist of the most common feature requests from past clients include:

  • Heated floors – given Winnipeg’s cold winters, heated tile floors provide comfort and warmth, making the bathroom more inviting
  • Walk-in showers – large, accessible walk-in showers with glass enclosures and custom tiles can make the space feel more open and luxurious.
  • Freestanding tubs: For a spa-like experience, freestanding soaking tubs are increasingly popular and can serve as a stunning focal point
  • Ample storage solutions: Built-in cabinetry, shelving, and vanity units that maximize storage without sacrificing style are essential for keeping the space organized
  • Stylish layered lighting: Layered lighting with dimmable options, including task, ambient, and accent lighting, can enhance the atmosphere and functionality
  • Durable quality countertops: Durable and attractive materials like quartz or granite for countertops can withstand moisture while adding elegance
  • High-quality ventilation – proper ventilation is essential to prevent moisture buildup
  • Durable, water-efficient fixtures – eco-friendly faucets, showerheads, and toilets can help save water and reduce utility bills while meeting sustainability standards

Do you work with subcontractors?

We do.

As a reputable home renovation company, Hammerdown has a stable of subcontractors, such as electricians or plumbers, with whom we work routinely but don’t directly employ. However, as mentioned, your quote covers 100% of your bathroom renovation—including the subcontractors needed for your job.

We are accountable for the subcontractors we hire and manage them using the same principles and attention to detail. While technically not part of the team, they treat our clients like any Hammerdown employee—with total respect.

Will you pull permits and handle inspections?

Yes, as part of our turn-key bathroom renovation services.

Your quote accounts for every permit and inspection, and we handle the communication between the engineer and the City of Winnipeg.

How long will it take you to complete my bathroom renovation?

On average, your bathroom renovation will take 3-6 weeks (estimated).

The timeline is for the construction and completion of your bathroom renovation. While 3-6 weeks might seem like a wide range, we can give you a more accurate timeline once we investigate your space. The timeline is often dependent on the size of the bathroom as well, for example, a small powder room versus a large ensuite.

Our bathroom renovation projects are completed 50% more quickly than our competitors. This is primarily due to our high level of detail and planning that comes before we start construction of your renovation.

We also typically require an additional 4-8 weeks for planning, consulting, and designing a bathroom renovation. However, at that time, you can still use your existing bathroom as you normally would. This time is critical for achieving a faster renovation turnaround.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost?

On average, a four average four-piece ensuite or main bathroom will cost between $20,000 and $40,000 (estimated).

The price of a bathroom renovation depends heavily on our work in the space. The costs will rise if the renovation requires extensive custom tile work, heated floors, and high-end finishes. On the other hand, the costs can come down a bit if we are renovating a powder room, reusing some fixtures, or using less tile work and features.
